David Geffen School of Drama at Yale consists of theater professionals and students working together in a conservatory setting. Training at the School of Drama includes classes and a range of production experiences, from readings to performances at the School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre.
As part of our conservatory training model, all M.F.A. and certificate candidates at David Geffen School of Drama are required to complete supervised practical training directly related to the student’s program of study, either within Yale’s production units or for an approved external host. This practical training requirement applies to all candidates in the program and is most often met through assigned production work at the School or Yale Repertory Theatre. In certain instances, it may be met through opportunities at an approved external educational or professional organization, including in the first year of study, with advanced approval from the relevant Program Chair and the Dean of the School.
