David Geffen School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre require all students, technical interns, faculty, staff, and guest artists to follow Yale University's COVID vaccine policy, which strongly recommends vaccines. The Yale policy is subject to change pending changes to public health conditions. Additionally, community members will be asked to comply with any masking or testing policies set forth by the School, Yale Rep, or Yale University, should they arise.


High school students are not eligible to apply for admission to David Geffen School of Drama at Yale. Learn more about undergraduate Yale College admissions information.

Use the link below to create a fall 2023 online graduate School of Drama application. Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page as you prepare your application.

We recommend that you work on your application over several days. Be sure to:

  • Save your work each time you add or change information
  • Upload all documents
  • Upload portfolios - Design (costume, lighting, projection, set, and sound)
  • Upload critical essays and plays (Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism, Playwriting)

Each of the programs within the School has specific requirements regarding admission procedures. Be sure to refer to the specific program descriptions before submitting an application for admission.

In all correspondence, applicants should state the program to which they are applying. All mailed supporting documents should be in the same name, or a note of explanation should be included. With the exception of a mailed design portfolio, documents submitted in support of an application become a part of the permanent records of David Geffen School of Drama and cannot be returned to an applicant or forwarded to another institution either in copy or original form.
