Sally Shen

Lecturer in Theater Management

Sally Shen is a theater producer, strategist, and organizational leader. Since 2018, she has been the Business Development Manager at Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), a global leader in commercial live entertainment. In her current role, she focuses on optimizing organizational workflow and strategy development. She delivers recommendations on issues of strategic importance to the CEO and executive team, designs project approaches for cross-cutting initiatives in all business areas and deploys adept problem-solving abilities. She also supports the company’s business development activities including market research, BI reporting, business case development, and deal execution. Sally serves on the company’s IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access) Committee and is a founding member.

Since 2017, Sally has also served as the Executive Director of Yangtze Repertory Theatre of America, a nonprofit theater organization founded in 1992, and with a renewed mission of uplifting voices of artists from the Chinese American and/or Chinese diaspora communities and telling stories rarely told in American theater through a contemporary Chinese lens. As the Executive Director, she oversees all aspects of the nonprofit’s operation, including season planning, budgeting, financial management, board development, donor cultivation, grant writing, marketing and communications, contracting, compliance and reporting. She also acts as line producer of all the theater’s mainstage productions.

Previously, she worked at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Yale Repertory Theatre, and was the Executive Director of Solar Troupe, a theatre ensemble in Beijing dedicated to new works. Prior to coming to the United States, Sally worked as a PR consultant at Ogilvy Public Relations in Beijing.

Sally has served as a grant panelist for New York State Council on the Arts, MAP Fund, A.R.T./New York, and NYC Theatre Subdistrict Council. She is a graduate of David Geffen School of Drama’s Theater Management program and received her MBA from Yale School of Management through the joint-degree program.

Born and raised in China, Sally now lives in New York City. She is an avid baker, prolific reader, and casual runner.
