Ron Daniels was born and brought up in Brazil. He is an Honorary Associate Director of Royal Shakespeare Company and a former Artistic Director of the RSC’s The Other Place Theatre. He moved to the United States in 1991 to take up the post of Associate Artistic Director of the American Repertory Theatre and the director of the Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard. He is currently a freelance director. His recent productions include world premieres of Daniel Schnyder’s Charlie Parker’s Yardbird for Opera Philadelphia which was also seen at the Apollo Theatre, in NY, at the Madison Opera, at the Chicago Lyric Opera and the ENO in London; Ricky Ian Gordon’s Morning Star for the Cincinnati Opera; La Bohème for the Opera Theatre of St Louis; Shakespeare’s Othello for the Shakespeare Theatre, Washington DC; Don Giovanni for the Santa Fe Opera; a Carmen for the LA Opera as well as a revival of his own production of Carmen for the Michigan Opera Theatre. In the summer of 2017 he staged a new production of Lucia di Lammermoor for the Santa Fe Opera and in the summer of 2018 he will direct a new production of Orfeu and Euridice for the Opera Theatre of St Louis. He has co-translated into Portuguese and directed King Lear, Hamlet, and most recently, Macbeth and Measure for Measure in Brazil.
