Amanda Quaid

Lecturer in Acting

Amanda Quaid has taught speech and dialects in New York for over 20 years, working privately with actors and as a production coach for plays, TV and film. Some of her favorite production credits include Caryl Churchill’s Glass. Kill. What If If Only. Imp. (Public Theater, world premiere), The Wanderers (Roundabout), Becky Nurse of Salem (Lincoln Center), and the world premiere of Kate Hamill’s Sense and Sensibility (Bedlam).

She’s been featured as an accent expert on Studio 360 (WNYC), and her book, American Accent Drills for British and Australian Speakers, was published by Routledge in 2020, the first American Accent guide for native English speakers. She is a past recipient of a grant from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council to design and lead Shakespeare training programs at NYC Senior Centers, along with a VASTA Research and Development grant.

A certified Miller Voice Method instructor, she works with adults and teens on vocal power and public speaking. As a certified Advanced Breathwork Practitioner and Kripalu Meditation Teacher, Amanda also works with performing artists and others on breathing and meditation for stress reduction and energy management.

As an actor, Amanda worked for two decades in New York and regionally. Favorite credits include Equus (Broadway), the US premiere of Cock (Duke on 42nd Street), Galileo with F. Murray Abraham (Classic Stage Company), Luck of the Irish (Lincoln Center), Mrs. Warren’s Profession with Elizabeth Ashley (Shakespeare Theatre Company), and As You Like It (Folger).

In addition to her coaching and acting work, she is an award-winning poet. Her debut collection, No Obvious Distress (John Murray Press) was named one of the Best Books of 2025 by The Independent.
