Gene Leitermann, ASTC, Lecturer. Mr. Leitermann is co‐founder of Nextstage Design, a theater design consulting firm practicing internationally, and the author of Theater Planning: Facilities for Performing Arts and Live Entertainment, published by Routledge in 2017. He has been the lead theater designer on more than 100 buildings, working with many of the top‐ranked architects in the United States, and on nearly every type of performing arts facility. Prior to forming Nextstage Design, he worked for 18 years at Theatre Projects Consultants, leading US operations for ten years. Mr. Leitermann has lectured at DGSD since 1998. He has been a conference panelist, lectured internationally, and held appointments to the NFPA technical committee on assembly occupancies and the ESTA Technical Standards Council. He earned a B.S. at University of Wisconsin (1978) and M.F.A. at David Geffen School of Drama at Yale (1982). He is a member of the American Society of Theatre Consultants (ASTC).
